The power of Co-Active coaching

Last Sunday, I completed 104 hours of intensive training with the Co-Active Training Institute, and I’m thrilled to share that I’ve received my certification! Today, I want to dive into why I chose to train with this globally recognized institution and how the Co-Active model is transforming the way I coach my clients.

The Co-Active Training Institute is the world's largest in-person and online coach training and leadership development organization. With instructors in 23 countries and 26 languages, the Co-Active model is truly global. It’s been hailed as the “gold standard” of coaching by the Institute of Coaching, a Harvard Medical School affiliate, and is accredited by the International Coaching Federation. The evidence-based research backing this model is what initially drew me to it, but the holistic, non-directive approach is what truly resonated with me.

The Co-Active® model is all about seeing the whole person—heart, mind, and body. It focuses on the person’s needs, hopes, dreams, and goals rather than just their problems. The name "Co-Active" itself holds deep meaning: "Co" represents the connection between coach and client, emphasizing collaboration, vulnerability, and essence. "Active" refers to the actions, choices, and systems we put into place—our creativity, power, and focus. Together, "Co-Active" means “being together…in action,” which beautifully encapsulates the essence of this coaching approach.

The foundation of Co-Active coaching rests on four key cornerstones:

  1. People are naturally creative, resourceful, and whole.

  2. Dance in this moment.

  3. Focus on the whole person.

  4. Evoke transformation.

Experiencing these principles firsthand as a client last year was incredible, and going through the training process only deepened my appreciation for this model. As a Co-Active coach, my role is to engage in thought-provoking dialogue with my clients, helping them to envision the future they want and inspiring them to maximize their personal and professional potential. My coaching isn’t about therapy or mentoring—it's about creating a safe, challenging space where clients can grow and transform.

When coach and client engage in a Co-Active® partnership, profound learning and self-awareness occur. This newfound awareness opens up possibilities and empowers clients to make resonant choices that align with their true selves. It’s a privilege to work alongside my clients, co-creating effective strategies that help them thrive in the present and build habits for a fulfilling future.
